Yi 4k action camera - How to color correct flat video
Yi 4k action cam Xiaomi YI 2 How to color correct the flat picture profile using Cyberlink Color Director 4.
This is a tutorial, step by step from the settings of the camera to the fine adjustments of the sliders and their functions. This camera only features two profiles, the color profile is excellent and really does not need much adjusting at all, so if you wanted to skip the editing process you could just film in the regular color mode and still get great results.
This video is for those who would like more control over their footage. Canon cameras offer a similar profile called Cinestyle which allow a flat file with greater dynamic range. Sony E- mount A6000, A6300 and other mirrorless systems offer the S-log profiles with great enhancements and dynamic range.
The YI 2 4k at the moment only has one, the flat profile. I think in the future will will probably see more features for these formats in future firmware or new camera models.
The tutorial footage is filmed with Canon 600d in Cinema style and no adjustments. The field images are taken with the YI2 set on flat profile using 2k mode to stabilize the image. The entire editing process is then output as a h.264 format at 1920 by 1080 resolution for youtube and internet streaming.
How do you render your footage and what type of program works best in your particular editing workflow? I searched for tutorials using Color Director 4 but never had luck finding any, I hope this tutorial is helpful to someone out there. I'm not an expert but, I just want to share my information as well as using this as a reference for the videos I produce. Below are links to the items I used to create this video.

Cyberlink Color Director 4 works as a stand alone program and can easily handle many file types. I use it in conjunction with Power Director 14. The cost for both comes in a roughly 200.00 and it can do hd, 2k and 4k files very easily. The pc processor you use determines how well and how fast the footage is rendered. If you have an old pc it will probably not be able to handle editing the 2k or 4k files.
